Patterns for Success (July 9-11, Kutztown University) is more than a leadership workshop.
It is an experience designed to help students discover who they are, how they lead, and how they can positively impact the people around them.
Every spring, leadership lists go up. Some students are excited. Some students feel pressure. Some are disappointed. Some are wondering if they’re actually ready.
And honestly? Most Drum Majors are feeling ALL of those things at the same time…and THAT’S really why Patterns for Success exists!
Hosted on the beautiful campus of Kutztown University, Patterns for Success is a leadership experience designed specifically for Drum Majors and student leaders preparing to guide their programs into a new season.
For three days, students work alongside nationally recognized leadership clinicians Bobby Lambert and Dr. Adam Gumble in sessions focused on:
- leadership
- communication
- culture
- confidence
- teamwork
- authenticity
- and what it actually means to lead PEOPLE well
Yes – there’s energy. There’s laughter. There’s team-building. There are plenty of moments that students will remember for a long time. But what makes Patterns for Success special is that students leave with ideas and perspectives they can actually bring back to rehearsal.
We spend a lot of time discussing the realities of leadership. Not the Instagram version. Not the perfect version. The REAL version. The version where:
- leaders feel pressure
- communication gets messy
- confidence wavers
- and students are trying to figure things out while also helping others do the same
One of the biggest reminders throughout the weekend is this:
Leadership starts LONG before a title ever does.
Some of the most impactful people in any organization never hold formal leadership positions.
They’re the students who:
- consistently encourage others
- bring positive energy
- support rookies
- show up prepared
- and make the experience better for the people around them
Students are encouraged to stop trying to become “the previous Drum Major” and instead focus on becoming the BEST version of themselves!
